About:
Team Type 1 was created in 2004 by Type 1 diabetes racers Phil Southerland and Joe Eldridge to inspire people living with diabetes to take a proactive approach to managing their health and overcoming the obstacles often associated with the condition. In 2006 and 2007, the team won the eight-rider corporate team division of the Race Across America. In 2008, a 15-rider professional continental cycling team was established, which includes four riders with Type 1 diabetes.

The squad is led by Matt Wilson, a Tour de France veteran and former Australian national road champion. Team Type 1 General Manager Tom Schuler and Sport Director Ed Beamon are two of the most established names in domestic cycling, having previously directed the longtime Saturn and Navigators Insurance teams, respectively.

Main sponsor sanofi-aventis is one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies and is developing leading positions in seven major therapeutic areas.
